Vibration monitoring

Why to use a monitoring of the machine by the system ifm octavis?

The price of an accident is increasing. Important is not only the price of the reparation, but also the downtime of the production line. Many machines have not been diagnosed till these days and maintenance teams do not know in which technical condition the machine really is. It concerns engines, transmissions, fans, or pumps. It is possible to monitor the condition of the devices by system ifm octavis for the price of patrol diagnostics. This system can be used for particular machines, but also for whole production lines. Dif® will tailor-make the project realization.

Monitoring system ifm octavis

ifm® octavis is a modern vibration monitoring on-line system. The assessment is therefore performed very close to the measured spot, directly on the machine. By this the amount of transmitted data is reduced. Octavis has got permanently connected sensors of vibrations – accelerometers. They are made by semiconductor technology and are called MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems). With a help of high-performance electronics with a digital signal processor, the signal from vibration sensors is processed, using FFT transformation. The results are frequency spectrums, a status of particular diagnostic parameters and a status semaphore (green, yellow, red). The matter-of-course is bringing the binary data about the machine status after the siren start up, or light signals in a control room.

  • Monitored quantities: vibrations, status of bearings, revolutions, technological quantities
  • Inner memory for saving of the machine’s history
  • Analyses both total values and frequency spectrums
  • Parameter diagnostics, status semaphore
  • Relay outputs for defect signalling
  • Communication over Ethernet

Parameter diagnostics

Only measuring the temperatures or total vibration values is not sufficient (as it was before) to find out the condition of the machine. Measured quantities of vibrations can be measured in selected frequency areas. Each area with separately set alarms corresponds to a typical defect – imbalance, loosing or defect of the bearing. The parameters can be called directly like the imbalance or the defect of the bearing. From one measuring point on the machine we can obtain more parameters for decision about diagnosis.

Display of results from the visualization diagnostics Promotic®

On the data server, there is the ifm® octavis software running for setting of evaluation units and OPC server. It saves measured data from evaluation units to the SQL database. From here, the data are read by OPC client and are displayed in SCADA visualization Promotic®. Application has been developed by company dif® in collaboration with company Microsys®, author of SCADA software Promotic®. The results are available on the company network, or they can be accessible on the internet. There are displayed currently measured data and a history of measurement. Dif® carries out regular remote assessments and administration of measured data by connecting to the data server. If necessary – for finding out the technical problem on the diagnosed machine, team dif® will come on site, will carry out an additional measurement and corrections – detailed diagnostics, balancing the machine or alignment.

Portable monitoring system Felix

Patrol instrument Felix is a complement of the online diagnostics. The customer wants to measure the patrol diagnostics by the same instrument as the online diagnostics. Parameter diagnostics is a quicker and easier option for the assessment of high number of machines. The assessment is carried out, like that of online diagnostics, directly at the machine.
